What was my mind saying when it heard?
What did You reply to the silent cry?
“Pain
and grief
humble a heart.
Peace comes in trusting.”

O ur hearts were guarded from further hurt,
P ain, betrayal, wounds cut deep.
E ntreating healing, yet,
N owhere to turn, trapped by our fears.
H earts are softened in compassion,
A s we learn to see, with
N ew eyes, the precious gifts
D elivered as an olive branch.
S haring our selves, we learn, to trust.
We each were culpable in our marriage mess,
yet, blindsided, I heard him disclose and confess
he’d found someone else and planned to leave
my every action and word then pled for a reprieve.
I sought aid and wise counsel, ‘ere we’d perish,
for we had sadly forgotten each other to cherish.
Our partnership lacked a foundation of trust,
and openness, too, we learned is a must.
Brick by brick walls were torn down as we learned to forgive,
the honesty and willingness allowed our marriage to live.
We lived through repentance after heart-wrenching grief,
and, slowly, in healing, we found relief.
Though several years have passed, we do not dare
now to neglect lifting each other in fervent prayer.
Into each other’s eyes, full face to face,
we gaze and rejoice in God’s endless Grace.

T each me, LORD, yet again
R efresh my joy in you.

S weet peace comes coursing through.
T hen, on knees, I’ll meekly bend
A ll pride prostrate to you.
G ive ear to every humble plea,
A bba, Father, forgive me now.
I yield my path again to thee
N ‘er more to stray,I pray, I vow
